International audience; This study is composed of three essential parts. The first part describes an indirect semi-experimental method which is used to reconstruct the excitation force of an operating diesel engine from the acceleration data measured at the mounting points. These internal forces can not be directly measured with force sensors; they have to be derived from the dynamic deformation of the engine support, so a theoretical analysis is carried out to derive the equations for the force re-construction.The second part deals with prevention of low frequency vibration of the powertrain from spreading to the rest of the vehicle. Application of aerosol optical properties to estimate aerosol type from ground-based remote sensing observation at urban area of northeastern China

Abstract Aerosol optical properties were derived from ground-based sunphotometer observations between 2009-2013 at three urban sites of Shenyang, Anshan, Fushun in northeastern China. The annual means for extinction aerosol optical depths (EAOD) at 500 nm were 0.57±0.38, 0.52±0.35, and 0.41±0.31 at Shenyang, Anshan, Fushun, respectively. The corresponding annual means for the extinction Angstrom exponents (EAE) computed for the wavelengths of 440 and 870 nm were 0.86±0.32, 0.86±0.34 and 0.91±0.35, respectively, indicating that urban area of Northeast China were affected by both coarse and fine particles. Sizing of ICE and Lithium-ion battery for series hybrid vehicle over life cycle with battery aging

This paper presents a method to evaluate the volume and weight of the internal combustion engine (ICE) and lithium-ion battery for a series hybrid vehicle that allows to minimize the mean consumption over system life. Individual driving cycles of the car over a total distance of 100 000 km are simulated. The ICE and battery dimensions are approximated; the fuel consumption is evaluated using a general approach. Lithium-ion battery is described including capacity fading and the energy split between ICE and battery system is evaluated using an heuristic approach. Results show a decrease of mean fuel consumption down to 5.1 L/100km.
CARS spectroscopy of CH4 for implication of temperature measurements in supercritical LOX/CH4 combustion

International audience; Experimental and theoretical investigations of coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy of CH4 have been carried out. Experimental spectra were measured in a heated high-pressure test cell and compared with numerical simulations. Good agreement was obtained for the temperature and the pressure dependence of CARS spectra in the ranges 300-1100 K and 0.1-5.0 MPa. The observed dependencies provide useful guidance for CARS thermometry, allowing quantitative measurements of temperature in high-pressure combustors. Abstract Torrefied pellets have fuel properties superior to those of conventional wood pellets and potentially allow greater rates of co-firing and thus larger reductions in net CO 2 emissions. Despite the growing amount of scientific output on torrefaction, the economic feasibility of torrefied pellet production is still a topic of considerable uncertainty. Abstract During the catalytic combustion of naphthalene, compounds other than CO 2 are often obtained. These products, as polymerized polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, oxygenated aromatic compounds and benzene derivate compounds, are usually more toxic than naphthalene. At the present work it is shown a nanocrystalline cerium oxide prepared by a combustion method employing a proper ethylene glycol concentration that exhibits very high activity in the decomposition of naphthalene in the presence of air and, most importantly, a selectivity value towards CO 2 of 100% for any range of conversions and/or temperatures used. A comparison between photocatalytic and catalytic oxidation of 2-Propanol over Au/TiO2-CeO2 catalysts

Abstract Photocatalytic and catalytic oxidation of 2-propanol, representative of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), were compared over mixed TiO 2 –CeO 2 -based catalysts. The effect of different amounts of CeO 2 and the presence of gold (1 wt%) on TiO 2 was investigated. In the photocatalytic oxidation CeO 2 had a negative effect on the performance towards the alcohol conversion of both TiO 2 –CeO 2 and Au/TiO 2 –CeO 2 catalysts, being Au/TiO 2 the most active system. On the contrary mixed TiO 2 –CeO 2 and Au/TiO 2 –CeO 2 samples showed a higher catalytic oxidation efficiency for 2-propanol conversion compared to the single oxides. A CPFD hydrodynamic model was developed for a circulating fluidized bed system and the simulation results were validated against experimental data based on particle circulation rate. Sensitivity of the computational mesh was primarily tested and extended grid refinement was needed at the loopseal to match the particle circulation rate with experimental data. The particle circulation rate was independent of the range of number of computational particles used in this study. A 10% reduction of the particle circulation rate was observed as the particle-wall interaction parameter was changed from 0.85 to 0.55 and 17% increment when the close-packed volume fraction was changed from 0.56 to 0.62. …
